Praise can feel impossible when life is hard, but the book of Psalms ends with an overwhelming call to praise for a reason. The Hebrew word for praise, hallel, carries the idea of joyful, unrestrained celebration directed toward God. Biblical praise does not require you to deny your pain. It calls you to remember what is true about God in the middle of what is happening around you. God is worthy of praise because He creates all things and cares deeply about human suffering. In Jesus, every one of those qualities was put on display in human history. He entered into our suffering, died, and rose again.
