When life falls apart, most people either shut down or overshare their pain. But the Bible offers an honest, faithful form of prayer that brings raw emotion directly to God—Lament. Lament makes up 30 to 40 percent of the Psalms, yet it is rarely taught in most Christian circles. Through psalms like Psalm 13, 22, 42, and 88, we see that bringing unfiltered pain to God is not a sign of weak faith. It is actually one of the most faithful things a person can do. Lament holds two realities together at once: the brokenness of the world and the goodness of a sovereign God.
