In John 13, Jesus gathers with His disciples in the upper room just hours before the cross. He washes feet, seats Judas in the place of honor, and loves him to the very end, even knowing the betrayal that was coming. After Judas departs, Jesus issues a new commandment: love one another as He has loved you. This is the defining mark of a follower of Christ, not a title or a church record, but a self-sacrificial, others-centered love that flows from genuine surrender to Him. Peter's bold declaration and subsequent denial remind us that meaning well is not the same as being fully surrendered. Yet even Peter's failure was not the end, because Jesus restores those He loves. The call is simple but demanding: love the people who are hardest to love, trust God's sovereign timing, and let childlike faith open the door to the kind of love only He can produce.
