Most of us spend our lives chasing things we believe will finally make us happy, only to find that the satisfaction never lasts. In Matthew 5:6, Jesus reframes the entire conversation by saying that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are the ones who will truly be satisfied. Righteousness is not simply about being a good person. It is about being in right relationship with God and living under His rule. The deeper problem is not that our desires are too strong. It is that we keep directing them toward things too small to hold them. Created things, whether relationships, money, or achievement, were never designed to carry the weight of our deepest longings. Jesus, who calls Himself the bread of life and living water, is the only one who can satisfy the hunger God placed within us. The invitation is simple and always open: come as you are, hungry and thirsty, and He will satisfy.
