Jesus has always been a divisive figure, not because he was unclear about his identity, but because he was crystal clear about his divine authority. In John 7, we see crowds struggling with Jesus' claims while adding human traditions to Scripture. Most people today know something about who Jesus is but resist truly surrendering to him, preferring to remake him according to their preferences rather than following him on his terms. But Jesus offers what nothing else can—living water that satisfies our deepest thirst. The Gospel is radically inclusive yet demands complete surrender, creating a clear dividing line.
