Culture has trained us to ask what we are getting out of everything, but Jesus modeled something radically different. In John 13, on the night before His crucifixion, He knelt down and washed His disciples' feet, knowing full well that they would betray, deny, and abandon Him. He served them anyway, and then He commanded His followers to do the same for one another. Serving others is not reserved for grand moments. It is lived out in ordinary, faithful acts of love repeated day after day. We do not serve to earn Christ's love. We serve because He has already given it to us freely. The world does not just need to hear about the love of Jesus. It needs to see it.
