We all carry expectations of what we want God to do for us, and when He doesn't meet them, it can be deeply disorienting. In John 12:20-36, Jesus uses the image of a seed falling into the ground to explain that death and surrender are not the end but the beginning of something far greater. He models what it looks like to have a troubled soul and a surrendered heart at the same time, showing us that faithfulness does not require the absence of struggle. Our emotions are real, but they do not have to rule our decisions. The goal of following Jesus is not our comfort or our best life. It is the glory of God. What we surrender to Him, He uses to produce life. The crowd wanted Jesus to overthrow Rome. He came to overthrow death itself.
